Choose a parental control without starting from a brand list

Start with the child's access, not the product category page. A family with one shared iPad has a different problem from a family with Android phones, Windows laptops, and an Xbox.

Write the device list

Include old phones, guest browser profiles, school devices, streaming sticks, and game consoles. Note the account used on each one.

Name the control

Write one sentence for each need. Examples: require approval for new Android apps, stop websites outside an allowlist in Edge, schedule a game on Xbox, or limit a child to parent-selected video channels.

Check permissions and upkeep

Some controls need device administrator access, a browser extension, a local profile, or a computer used for setup. Decide who will maintain those pieces before paying for a plan.

Run a small proof

After setup, try the child app, a browser, another account, and signed-out viewing. A product is only part of the setup; the test should follow the child's actual routes.
